It’s been a long time since I updated. I’ve been battling near daily headaches, as well as just being busy with life in general. I’m hoping that I’ll be back into regular sewing again now.

I started on the Martinique sets awhile back and finally got them finished this week. I love this beautiful fabric set! I wasn’t into tote bag making when I first bought the fabrics, so I had something else in mind for them, but I think they turned out great. I made two sets for my dear friends, Andrea and Heather, who requested this set from the list of Available Fabrics.

***Note: I only have enough fabric for a wallet and clutch using fabrics from this set, but they are slightly different.***

Pricing & Sizes:
Complete Set – $55 (Not available in this fabric set. Please see my current  Available Sets.)

Waverly Street was made for my friend Mandy by request when she picked out a set from my list of Available Fabrics. Due to a busy life schedule this week it took a little longer than usual to get this set made, but I enjoyed working with the beautiful paisley fabric. Paisleys definitely rank up there as one of my favorite patterns no matter what color it’s in. This is also the first set that I have photographed in the new light box that David made for me. Pictures of the light box are on the Facebook Fan page.

The Scarlet Botanical set proved to be incredibly popular. My mom claimed a set before I even had a set made, and I sold the second set the day after it was made. I wish I had more of the beautiful flower fabric to make another complete  set, but I do have enough left over for a clutch and two wallets if anyone is interested. I’ll be posting them to Etsy as soon as they are made unless someone requests them first.

Pricing & Sizes:
Complete Set – $55 (no more available)
Tote – $30 (no more available) /Bag 12.5″W x 10″H, w/ straps 12.5″W x 20″H
Clutch – $15 (1 can be made) / 7.5″W x 4.5″H
Wallet – $10 (2 can be made) / 4.5″W x 3″H

Introducing Island Girl! I started carrying this first set that I made last week as sort of my prototype and discovered that I need to make a few changes, such as the way I do my stitching and the size of the pockets. Hey, it’s quality control at it’s best!

In the last couple of weeks, I have purchased a few more fabric sets for upcoming sets, as well as a few more patterns that I want to make. I’m really excited to get started on them all. I had so much fun putting Island Girl together and wish I had more of this beautiful fabric. I should have enough to make one more tote bag but not sure if I have enough for a complete set.

Quality photographs still have not been taken, but since I promised and never delivered last week I’ll deliver a sneak peek now. I’ll be adding a button to the wallet, but otherwise let me introduce Island Girl.

The tote bag is 9″ tall by 13.5″ wide and the straps add another 11″ for a total of 20″ by 13.5″. There are 2 pockets on the outside and 8 pockets on the inside. The bag is soft but stands on it’s own. It’s extra roomy and holds all sorts of things inside, especially with the multiple pockets.

The clutch on the left measures 4.5″ tall and 7.5″ wide and has 1 small pocket on the inside. I really love this clutch! The opening snaps closed like the slap bracelets of the 80′s and 90′s (that I think have returned again lately).

The wallet on the right measures 3″ tall and 4.25″ wide and has 4 pockets inside, including a pocket designed to hold change. The wallet closes with velcro and will have a button on the front.

I love how they turned out! I’ll be selling a similar set that is solid green on the top portion instead of white with green polka dots. I’ll take more detailed pictures of all of the features of each bag….hopefully this weekend!

Through a few trials and errors last night I got everything cut out to start two handbags and matching wallets. Since I’ve mostly been working with fat quarters and smaller cuts of fabric lately, I forgot the easier way to cut large fabric sections into smaller, workable pieces. The lesson cost me a big portion of one of the solid colored fabrics that I have, which is luckily very easy to replace and a small portion of one of my feature fabrics that isn’t so easy to replace. I was frustrated at first, but I’m sure it will all work out in the end and that it will get easier with more practice. Here’s a sneak peek at what I’m working on first. Enjoy!

I practiced with my new sewing machine Sunday night and Monday night by finishing an apron kit that I had bought late last year. The apron turned out really cute, too! I played around with different stitches and even used a decorative stitch that stitched little bows around the trim. Now it’s time to get down to business and start sewing some handbags. I can’t wait to get home and get started!

Since most of my sewing has been for gifts, I have only made 2 handbags for myself. The first one turned out cute but had some major problems because I didn’t know how to create a squared bottom. The second one turned out GREAT and is what inspired me to start this business. While my handbags won’t be exactly like this, they will be inspired by a tote bag and wallet that I made for my trip to Las Vegas this past spring.

I’ve got several combinations of fabrics that I am ready to work with, and I hope they turn out as well as my Las Vegas set turned out. I plan to have a set complete by the weekend. Fingers crossed!

A friend of my mom’s works at the Viking Center at JoAnn’s, and I had plans to meet with her on Sunday to look at new sewing machines. The machine that I have now is a very inexpensive and basic sewing machine that my mom bought for me 2 years ago for my birthday when I expressed a small interest in learning to sew. At the time I didn’t think I would use it much because my past experiences with sewing hadn’t been all that great. For the past couple of months I’ve been having problems with the machine jamming or needing special attention in one way or another.

I had a few ideas of features that I wanted in a sewing machine and a price range. David surprised me by suggesting that we go ahead and get the top of the line sewing machine that Viking offers. How could I say no?!?!

I have to admit that I was a bit intimidated at first when it came time to actually use it. I busied myself with cleaning and straightening up my sewing room after I had unpacked it from the box. However, once I got to sewing on it, I was loving it! I was so afraid that I wouldn’t be able to tell much of a difference in the old machine and the new machine, but that was far from what happened. Since I didn’t have to keep stopping to fix something and the bobbin took immediately instead of toying with it like I did my old machine, I got quite a bit accomplished last night!

So to say that I am pleased with the purchase is an understatement. I am so ready to get started with making items for my store and sharing the love of Made by Frogdiva!

I am so excited to start my business! I’ve been sewing since 2009, but I was born into a crafty and creative family. For as long as I can remember I’ve enjoyed bringing out my artistic abilities and love making gifts for friends and family. Now I get to share my talents with others. I’m just getting started with the business but looking forward to seeing where it goes.

I hope you’ll join me and follow me on my journey!
